Firmament (2011 – )

Firmament 1 is a 1/4″ audio tape installation that was part of the 2011 Metro Arts Cross Stitched exhibition You are everything I want you to be. Firmament is an ongoing project, constantly adapting to fit a diverse array of spaces, events and performance situations.

The vault or expanse of the heavens; the sky.

Firmament I incorporates both static and transient threads of tape seamed together by the electric light of amber. Shifting gradients appear before the eye as woven loops of magnetised resonance, entrapping ears in sonic planes.

Instructions to the audience: Walk, sit, lie in the space – your eyes and ears adjust to the transforming gradients

Materials: ¼ inch magnetic tape, monofilament line, incandescent bulb and reel to reel players.
