Satie Loops [2016]

Satie Loops [2016] was composed for Belle Chen in her exploration of symbolist and surrealist ideas across three rooms at Royal Academy of Music’s 2016 Summer Piano Festival (UK). She performed Satie Loops alongside contemporary dancer Anastasia Kostner and filmmaker Annlin Chao.

Taking a recording Chen performing Eric Satie’s Gymnopédies No.1 I created several cassette tape loops of varying length which provided the basis of further transformations which are layered together by 4-track cassette redubs and a variety of obsolete samplers.

Satie Loops was premiered at the Royal Academy of Music 2016 Summer Piano Festival (UK) on 01.07.16 and later the 2016 Latitude Festival (UK).
